A Stone in Moving Water and Before We Met You: A Journey to Adoption are a two-book mini series covering the topic of adoption.

A Stone in Moving Water is a personal memoir spanning from my adoption to the present day. It talks about the challenges a Chinese adoptee faces both internally and within an all-white family. The book features family photographs taken over the years, primarily in black and white, to emphasize the narrative and reinforce the feeling of isolation.

Before We Met You: A Journey to Adoption is more focused on the other half of the adoption story and covers the process. It highlights the experiences, steps, and considerations that families may encounter throughout the adoption process.

The family tree symbolizes the connection between the two books. The leaves display the names of family members and their connection titles. Intertwined within the branches is a red string, a motif talked about within A Stone in Moving Water.
