The Everlasting Impact of A.M. Cassandre - Expressive Typographic Book Design

Project Type: Digital Development and Physical Production

Created With: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, String, Chipboard, and Coptic Binding

While studying abroad in Lacoste, France, I created a two-part project. The first part was creating a set of three bookmarks using expressive type, and the second was creating a typographic book with at least 40 pages. Because we had to pick a French-related topic, I chose the graphic artist, A.M. Cassandre.

The goal of the project was to explore how typography can be manipulated into an image, and how text and image can become one. To do so, I drew inspiration and a foundation from several famous Cassandre works for the expressive typography. I also referenced Cassandre's art style when designing the layouts throughout the book.

This was the first time I had experimented with different types of book-binding techniques. The content within the book is pulled from several articles and websites about A.M. Cassandre and his impact on the art world.
