Expressive Typographic Book Design

While abroad in Lacoste, France, I was tasked with a two-part project. The first part was to create a set of three bookmarks with expressive type, and the second part was to create an at least 40-page typographic book. The subject of our book had to be France-related, so I chose the graphic artist, A.M. Cassandre.

The goal of the project was to experiment with how type can be manipulated into an image, and how text and image can become one. To do so, I pulled from various famous Cassandre pieces as inspiration/a foundation for the expressive type. I chose to design my pages with references from Cassandre's art style.

This was the first time I had experimented with different types of book-binding techniques. The content of the book is pulled from several articles and websites about A.M. Cassandre and his impact on the art world.
